1-2-3-4 reminder

Just a reminder that 1-2-3-4, an art gig at Fabrica Gallery in Brighton, is taking place this Friday (18th) at 7pm. Featuring "five artists who use music performance as an integral component of their practice". The artists are former Turner prize winner Martin Creed, the Apathy Band, the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim aka David Blandy, the Coolness, and Plastique Fantastique.
A discussion on the subject of interdisciplinary practice (music and visual art) will take place on Thursday 28th January 2010 at the Sallis Benney Theater, University of Brighton. The discussion will include some of the performing artists from the gig.
The event is selling out rather quickly so be sure to book your tickets quickly by visiting this website. Or try getting them from Grey Area, Fabrica, or Resident.
A limited print booklet of the event will also be available at the night of the event, designed by yours truly. So be sure to take some extra cash with you.

Study for a sound influenced visual piece. Sound composed by Bari, Baloo and Lucinda with the intention of taking the role of a soundtrack in an experimental video. This is the first attempt of using each stem (instrument within the song) to influence 3d objects. Unfortunately, the results are less than satisfactory (for avoiding to use the word 'failure').

I used Cinema 4d to create the objects and a sound effector was placed under each element to affect its polygons. The mistake probably lies in the increase compression within the sound effector settings. This, in addition to not limiting the frequency range have been the cause of the exaggeration of movement. A delay effector was also added to make the movement somewhat more smooth, less jerky, and perhaps realistic.

Global Illumination and Ambient Occlusion, although at low settings, increased render time to 49 hours (at which point the electricity run out) for the second half of the video.

The old man knocks on the door asking to register for voting. In receiving the reply that we don't vote, he asks where we're from. He asks whether Cyprus is in the E.U. Regardless of my positive answer, he turns the registration page to consult the official statement on the matter. It seems that Cyprus is not in the E.U, even though he was under the impression that it was. Obviously, the authority has not amended their papers yet, as this was the case again last year and the year before that. But wait, something else appears, Cyprus is part of the Commonwealth. Better than nothing.
I should fill out the form with all residents living in the house who are eligible to vote. Sign here with last name, and here with christian name. This is the yearly visit we get for voting. On the other hand, today I receive the fifth letter in the last one and a half weeks to pay for council tax. Seems like the old case of keep-out-of-our-affairs-give-us-your-money-we-will-still-mess-with-your-affairs.

Daphne's interactive triptych on Mysticism, combining alchemical drawings and ideas into a very successful collage. The interactive files, being quite large cannot be found online. Instead we have uploaded them as animations.

It appears this blog has been flagged for its objectionable content. Apparently, I haven't read "The Wisdom of the Crowds". I am though familiar with "The Genius of the Crowd". To each his own. How peculiar that I created the above image the day my blog was flagged. Perhaps one may find it relevant.
On a different note, in my dream last night Allen Ginsberg told me that during death one finds himself on a train wagon where rain pours from the hole in the middle whilst William Burroughs reads poetry sitting on the opposite row of sits. This, Ginsberg said, was told to him by Jack Kerouac who had the experience. At the time it made perfect sense. I suppose it still does now.

***UPDATE: I noticed that many people are having the same problem of flagging as me. It appears the problem has to do with firefox. Let's hope it is and I can eat my words.

Kit Connor website update

Kit and I had a discussion regarding the design of his website (posted previously). I have redesigned the whole website to focus more on the work. Some elements that took a lot of space have become more subtle. The gallery has split up into sections and the navigation of it has also changed to a simple scroller.
There was a kind of struggle in coding the gallery and also with the preloader of the photographs. This has convinced me to struggle a bit more with actionscript 3.

A minor word is an interactive piece created by Daphne Christoforou and me. Each environment relates to a word beginning with the letters Ab. Upon seeing Ab, we thought we could take it a step further and create all music based on the A minor chord. It was obvious to us then that the title should be this. I begun working on a collaborative project with Daphne. It is an interactive story similar to "The adventures of Monsieur Bouton". Visually the style is quite different as Daphne has worked her magic and produced some stunning illustrations. The plot is written by employing automatic writing. I will import the illustration in Flash, then write a small description on say first frame. Then add a second frame, continue with description or perhaps a character speaking and so on. With each proceeding frame, it feels new ground is both explored and created simultaneously. This fusion of text and imagery fascinates me more than cutting edge animation. Yet again, I am perhaps swimming in nostalgia for old adventure games.
