The Ladderman: Crash Noir & Moon Tap

The bottom image was made while trying to think of ideas for the new Ladderman - a sketch more or less. While taking a coffee break, a long discussion on driving came up, ending up kind of heated. Mainly relating to the carelessness of drivers, speeding drivers and slow ones, whether any implies carefulness or experience, etc.
Coming back home and while having in mind a film noir, I begun working on the first image posted. The outcome looks pretty decent, and there's an overall excitement going about on my side, seeing this concept of Ladderman coming to life.
It's not only about working out a story behind the image but linking the stories behind each image together. The fact that each one is somewhat different, makes it all the more interesting. If it triggers the same imagination to someone else, then I'm happy enough.

1-0

For the Cyprus European Presidency, the advertising company Partners Y&R designed a logo that strikes a close resemblance to the one in the photo above. As you can see, the photo was taken from shutterstock, a royalty-free stock photo etc service. Partners Y&R responded under the postmodern ideology that nothing is original, and, any idea can pop simultaneously. In actuality, the 'inspiration' for the logo design, also appearing on the five mils coin was taken by an ancient Cyprus artifact that resembles a bird as a ship.

Now all this may be true, yet, I have worked at Partners Y&R myself, and I dare admit that the majority (all) of it's advertising designs, highly depend upon aforementioned royalty-free websites. In my case, particularly, any original material produced and presented to the owners of the company, the high in-command, were rejected in favour of some pre-existing design on the web. That is, perhaps, the reason why nothing -on the web- exists as an original, because everything is a copy of a copy. One needs only look at the Y&R website for comparison on their innovative ideas, rather than the Cypriot company that drags along the name of a succesful company to the hell of postmodernism.

Thank you Partners, but no thanks.

The Ladderman & friends - revised

Poster for The Ladderman & friends gig revised. This can also be considered as a milestone of personal psychic breakthrough - of acceptance. A closer observation will lead to associations. These associations came from the placing of particular objects and, in previous works, were immediately removed on the basis of 'what if'. With this one, I came to an agreement with myself, finally uttering the words 'they are my elements also'. We can discuss about The Ladderman as Lacan's Thing and my fear of the opinion of the Other at another point.

Below are detailed shots (click to enlarge).
